Artists
by Incognigo Montoya inas a child i naturally inherited an interest in art, drawing and painting to be specific.
being a jw, the paintings and drawings in the literature always caught my eye and piqued my interest.
as i got older, and bettered my artistic abilities, i was often encouraged to put bethel as a goal, though it was family friends more so than my parents who suggested that i should pursue a bethel career, using my artistic skills.

"THERE IS NO PAST we can bring back by longing for it, only a present that builds and creates itself as the past withdraws." -- Evelyn Greenslade, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
We who have given up on the notion of living forever in paradise have moved on with our lives, making the best use of our remaining days. Strangely, I have a quiet sense of purpose and contentment as I embark upon my seventh decade. I don't need "forever."

Thank you, stillin, fro replying.
I was beginning to despair of no one's commenting! Yes, I have read the above title and used it in class. My favorite lines:
The student, said the teacher, is crazy.
The student said the teacher is crazy.
World of difference, according to one's perspective.
Happy trails!

A class-action lawsuit about overtime pay for truck drivers hinged entirely on a debate that has bitterly divided friends, families and foes: The dreaded — or totally necessary — Oxford comma, perhaps the most polarizing of punctuation marks.
What ensued in the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and in a 29-page court decision handed down on Monday, was an exercise in high-stakes grammar pedantry that could cost a dairy company in Portland, Me., an estimated $10 million.
In 2014, three truck drivers sued Oakhurst Dairy, seeking more than four years’ worth of overtime pay that they had been denied. Maine law requires workers to be paid 1.5 times their normal rate for each hour worked after 40 hours, but it carves out some exemptions.

I'm grateful you survived the ordeal, moley, and are doing better now. Smiddy, et al., too!
Here in the US, being poor doesn't prevent good care. Similarly, when I had severe angina and subsequent myocardial infarction -- is that what they call the heart attack? -- I had two ambulance ferries to two different hospitals. In ER alone, I counted some 12-plus medical personnel who attended to me one way or another. I remembered their names and sent them a thank you letter. They were caring and efficient.
When the bills came, Medicare paid the lion's share (they paid 80%, yet it was only some 20% of what the hospital charged, I recall). Since I don't have supplemental, I had a 20% copay. Was I worried? Sure, at first, but I was allowed to make interest-free monthly payments to the hospital; some companies who performed services asked what I could pay; some forgave the balance after several good-faith payments, etc.
I'm sure there are horror stories out there. In my case, however, it was compassion and caring and cooperation vis-a-vis my financial circumstances. Can you imagine my joy when I made the last $40 installment (the highest monthly payment)?
Best wishes toward a speedy recovery.

Thanks, LV101, for your kind words.
It is scary, never allowed to let our guard down. Fire was once a seasonal thing; now, it's year-round. Last year, the narrow roads out of our gated community were jammed; many were unaware of an alternate route. Since that time, there have been awareness drills. My first thought was to run down the road to the open spaces of the golf course.
Take care of yourself, dear friend!

Thanks, Mr. Flipper, for the good thoughts and support. Wishing you and the missus well.
You're welcome, too, for the information. Likewise, clients have been having me do clearing for them. Ironic that reports on the reality of the so-called new abnormal have acknowledged that, when the wind comes roaring through, it's all but a lost cause.
Take care, friend.
